Welcome to CJSHS Art!

The Art Room has been very busy this school year!

Art Exploratory introduces students to the Elements of Art and gives them a glimpse of what other Art classes have to offer. Some of their most successful projects include wire animal sculptures and appropriated self-portraits. It is a lot of fun to see the students experience new things and media!

The Drawing class was small but mighty! With just seven students, we were able to focus in and run the course much like a college level course. We were even lucky enough to have Mr. Skattum come in and model for us during the figure drawing portion of the class. When Mr. Skattum wasn’t available, Glenn (the anatomy skeleton) filled in.

The Photography class battled adversity in the dark room; I will admit that my inexperience with film photography created some snags for us. Fortunately, we were able to work digitally thanks to donations of cameras from the faculty and staff of CJSHS. We compiled those photos into our own website, http://chsphotoclass.wix.com/photographyclass. Thank you to the Photography students for their perseverance!

Painting classes this term have been working very hard! We have turned out a number of works already, including Color Theory studies and an Aboriginal inspired piece. Students are currently working on stenciled street art. These students continue to impress me with their hard work!

Advanced Art students have been working mainly in Painting this term, and will have the option to switch media at midterm. These students work on self-generated projects, meaning they can invest their time into what interests them most. Advanced Art partakes in class critiques to help guide their work along the way.

Thank you to all of the art students for their continued efforts and for their tenacity. I would also like to thank the community, our faculty and staff, and the administration for their continued support of Fine Art. Thank you for making my first year here amazing!
