Bio:

My interest in the arts started at a very young age. Throughout elementary school I spent countless hours drawing and took several summer art courses in many different types of media. While attending high school at Wahlert Catholic in Dubuque , I continued to explore the world of art by taking nearly every art class offered at the school. In 2002 I won the prestigious "Best in Show" award at the Dubuque Museum of Art's High School Art Contest.
After graduation I headed off to the University of Northern Iowa where I studied Art Education. My emphasis at UNI was ceramics. Studying under Joann Schnabel, I explored many ceramics processes including gas reduction firing, salt firing, wood firing, and raku firing. While at UNI I also studied photography, graphic design, jewelry, and drawing. Art education courses were of utmost importance to me and gave me the opportunity to hone my craft as an educator. My college portfolio included two exhibitions, I had a dish set selected for the Annual Juried Student Art Show in 2005 and also held a Senior Show in the Deans Triangle in 2006.
After graduating with the distinction of Cum Laude from UNI, I joined the Western Dubuque School District teaching staff. Teaching at Western Dubuque has been a terrific experience for me. I currently teach both art and technology classes. It is my passion to instill in my students a lifelong desire to learn. I try to inspire a love for the arts as well as an appreciation for technology. The past two years I have emphasized and incorporated education on character strengths in my lessons.
Athletics have also been a large part of my life. I enjoyed much success competing as a high school athlete in football, track and rugby. Some accolades include:  1st team all-conference running back, team captain and Drake qualifier. My experiences have fueled my desire to coach at the high school level. After coaching in the Dubuque Community School District for two years I was hired as an Assistant Varsity Track Coach at Western Dubuque High School in 2008 and have been helping athletes run faster and jump further since then. In 2017 we received a 3rd place trophy at the state meet, winning the 4x100 and finishing runner up in the 4x200 and Sprint Medley.  We also won two Drake Relays titles that year and finished 2nd in the Drake Relays Hy-Vee Cup.  My coaching experience also incudes 5 seasons on the football staff as a sophomore coach.  Throughout my coaching career I have also been actively involved in strength and conditioning in some capacity since 2008.
Personally, I enjoy spending time with my wife, Ellie and my three children, Amelia, Maximus and William
