Belin-Blank Center Honors Students and Teachers
Libby Lansing and Noah Rowles, both 7th graders at Drexler Middle Intermediate School in Farley, Iowa were among the almost 500 students from Iowa and throughout the nation who were recently invited to be honored at The University of Iowa Belin-Blank Center's Recognition Ceremony. Also invited to the ceremony and unable to attend from DMIS were: Josie Boyle, Hannah Glawe, and Isabelle Miller. Additionally, recognized students were given the opportunity to honor a teacher they credited for having a profound influence on their lives. Rowles selected Mrs. Peggy Keegan of Dyersville, Iowa for this honor and Lansing chose Mrs. Kristen Wagner.
The ceremony was held Sunday, October 8, 2017, at the Iowa Memorial Union on the University of Iowa campus.
Students were invited to be recognized by the Center for exceptional performance in the Belin-Blank Center student talent search, for receiving scholarships for Belin-Blank Center summer residential gifted programs, for being national awardees from the Scholastic Art and Writing program, for being a student research presenters at the Iowa Junior Science and Humanities Symposium, for being an awardee for Invent Iowa State Invention Convention, participants in STEM Excellence and Leadership program, or participants in the Secondary Student Training Program.
Addressing the students, teachers and guests were The University of Iowa President Bruce Harreld, Dean Dan Clay from the College of Education, and Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds. Alumna Christie Vilsack delivered the keynote address to teachers and Richard Su, delivered the keynote address to the students.
