Students Present to the Governor's STEM Advisory Council
Students Present to the Governor's STEM Advisory CouncilCascade Jr./Sr. High School (CJSHS) is a recipient of the HyperStream grant award. With the HyperStream grant, Mrs. Palmer, CJSHS Technology Teacher, received a robot, curriculum, and money to apply to the IT Olympics at ISU. The competitions include App development, robot wars (taught in Intro to Programming), multimedia marketing for a business (taught in Emerging Business Technologies) and a community service project (taught in Desktop Publishing II).

The Governor’s STEM advisory director asked Mrs. Palmer to present to the board on how the grant was being incorporated. Students in grades 8-12 presented their creations, along with Jenny Recker, the Director of the Aquin Daycare and Preschool, who was the recipient of the service project. Director Jeff Beneke said, "This is exactly what we were hoping for when we started the Scale up Program."

Other STEM opportunities Mrs. Palmer has been involved in over the years include the MICROSOFT IT ACADEMY utilized by the Intro to Comp. Business Applications class. She also completed two externships, so she could experience how the skills she is teaching are being utilized in both the banking and healthcare industries.
