Fire Department Visit

The Bernard Fire Department joined Bernard Elementary on Tuesday, October 11th to celebrate Fire Prevention Week.  In the morning, the Pre-K class visited the Bernard Fire Station.  The students got to sit in the ambulance and some even tried on firefighter gear.  In the afternoon, members of the fire department came to Bernard Elementary.  They talked to the students about the importance of checking smoke detectors and replacing them every 10 years.  Firefighters showed students how to use a fire extinguisher, explained why they wear each piece of their gear and had the students practice stop, drop, and roll.  Then the students had the opportunity to go outside and explore the two fire trucks the firefighters brought to school.  Finally, each of the Pre-K students got to spray the fire hose to finish off a fun day of learning with the Bernard Fire Department!
