Wellness Wednesday
Your children may have a lot of excuses why they can't start healthy habits during the school year. Now that it's summer, use the break to get those habits established.

Here are some tips:
  • Get into the breakfast habit. It's really true, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. If your children don't like traditional breakfast food, experiment with some unusual foods they may prefer to eat. There’s nothing wrong with carrots for breakfast.

  • Find out how much sleep your children really need. Kids who don't get enough sleep can be irritable, and have trouble paying attention.

  • Enjoy outdoor activities. The light summer evenings are ideal for some family exercise time. Take a walk together through your neighborhood. Ride bikes. Or go for an evening swim at a nearby pool or lake. Try a new activity with your children.

  • Use sunscreen. Too much time in the sun can lead to skin cancer. Encourage your children to have fun in the sun, but make sure they use sunscreen and don't stay in the sun too long.
