Schools are working hard to keep students safe while they're at school. But violence prevention must start at home.

Talking to your children on a regular basis is an essential first step to helping prevent violence. To begin a family dialogue about violence and safety, ask questions such as the following:
  • What scares or frightens you?
  • What makes you feel safe?
  • What makes you angry?
  • What are ways to solve a problem without hurting anyone?
  • How would you promote peace at school?

Listen carefully to your children’s answers. You’ll make it clear that you take this issue seriously and that you care about what they think.
