Drexler Middle/Intermediate School Counseling Department
The purpose of any visit to the counselor is to help your child develop strategies to become a better, more efficient learner. Many times, a teacher or parent request the counselor see a child. Students can see their counselor by coming to the middle school guidance office after checking in with their teacher to assure a student's instructional time is not compromised. Students come to see counselors for a variety of reasons - difficulty in adjusting to the new schedule, organizing homework while participating in out-of-school activities, making new friends, keeping old friendships, disappointing parents, anxiety over grades, to name a few.
In addition, the counseling staff is often a parent's first point of contact with middle school staff if they have questions about (1) their child's schedule; (2) their child's transition to middle school; (3) their child's academic progress; (4) scheduling a team conference; or (5) understanding their child's development as an adolescent.
You can contact the guidance office during normal school hours or email anytime.
