Good Afternoon:

On Tuesday, November 16th, the school board passed the following policy:

Effective Monday, November 22, 2021, the WDCCSD will utilize the district's COVID-19 dashboard data to determine if a temporary mask mandate should be put into effect for all employees, students, parents and visitors of a school where that building's positivity rate is 3% or higher and is expected to remain at or above that level for two or more days.

The mandate will remain in effect for a minimum of five calendar days and will be repealed after that time period if the positivity rate drops below 3% and is expected to remain below that level for two or more days. Any outdoor activities, including student recess, or classes and indoor activities such as lunch recess or PE that occur in a large area where distancing can be maintained are excluded. Exemptions will be allowed for medical, religious, brain health or at the discretion of the superintendent or his designee.

If a mask mandate will be enacted in your child's school, you will be notified by email in advance of the mandate. The total number of active, positive cases needed to reach 3% for each school is listed below.

Cascade Elementary..............................10
Dyersville Elementary.............................13
Epworth Elementary...............................14
Farley Elementary...................................10
Peosta Elementary.................................14
Drexler Middle School............................22
Cascade Jr. Sr. High School...................14
Western Dubuque High School.............32

Our COVID-19 dashboard shows the total number of active, positive student cases by building. The number shown for each building represents only student cases and does not include staff cases. Due to HIPPA regulations, we are unable to show the total of active, positive staff cases by building because the number of staff is too small to report separately. There may be times when the total active, positive cases reported for a building is below the number needed to reach 3%, but the actual total active, positive cases including students and staff is at or above 3%. If this happens, and a mask mandate is put into place, we will be sure to explain that in the email sent out to the families of the building affected.

If you believe your child qualifies for an exemption to a mask mandate, please click on the link below to complete and submit the exemption form. If your child has a medical exemption, please forward the note from your healthcare provider to the school your child attends.
