Bullying & Harassment

Anti-bullying and Harassment

The Western Dubuque County Community School District (WDCCSD) is dedicated to ensuring a safe and respectful school environment where all members of the school community are treated with dignity and respect. To achieve this, the WDCCSD School Board has implemented comprehensive policies, procedures, and practices aimed at reducing and eliminating bullying and harassment.

Our district has established clear processes and procedures to address and manage any incidents of bullying and harassment. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards bullying and harassment of students, whether perpetrated by other students, school employees, or volunteers in direct contact with students.

Together, we strive to create a supportive and inclusive environment for all.

Individuals who feel they have been harassed should take the following steps:

  1. Communicate Directly: If comfortable, inform the harasser that their behavior is unwelcome and must stop. If assistance is needed, seek help from a teacher, counselor, or principal.

  2. If Harassment Continues:

    • Report the ongoing harassment to a teacher, counselor, or principal.

    • Document the incident in detail, keeping a copy for yourself and providing another copy to the teacher, counselor, or principal. Include the following information:

      • What happened, including date, time, and location.

      • Who was involved.

      • Exactly what was said or done by the harasser.

      • Names of any witnesses.

      • Your response at the time and any subsequent actions.

      • How you felt during and after the incident.

      • The harasser's response, if any.

Anyone who believes they have been harassed or bullied should follow the district's complaint procedures. All complaints will be thoroughly investigated.
