The Western Dubuque County Community School District is pleased to announce Sandra Luna as the next principal of Cascade Junior Senior High School, pending official school board approval.
Luna brings nearly 30 years of experience in education and currently serves as principal of Scarborough Elementary in Northside Independent School District in San Antonio, Texas. In her role, she has led a large and diverse school community, with a strong focus on building relationships, supporting staff, and creating systems that drive student growth and achievement.
Her experience also includes serving as an associate principal and classroom teacher, providing her with a well-rounded perspective on teaching, learning, and school leadership.
The selection process was both comprehensive and inclusive. Finalists participated in a full day of interviews that included administrators, staff, students, and family and community members. Each group engaged in structured conversations aligned to the district’s leadership priorities, including building a positive, student-centered culture, establishing clear and consistent expectations, communicating with clarity and transparency, and supporting staff at a high level.
Through a comprehensive and inclusive process, Luna emerged as the strongest overall candidate, with clear strengths in culture, communication, and instructional leadership.
What makes this selection especially meaningful is Luna’s connection to the Cascade community. A graduate of Cascade High School and a member of a multi-generational Cougar family, she returns with a deep understanding of the values and traditions that define the school and community.
“Sandra brings a unique combination of experience, leadership, and connection to Cascade,” said Superintendent Dan Butler. “She understands the importance of relationships, has a strong instructional background, and is well prepared to lead Cascade Junior Senior High School moving forward.”
Luna will officially begin her role on July 1.
