The Western Dubuque County Community School District Board of Education has approved the district’s 2026–2027 school calendar.
Under Iowa Code, public school districts are required to provide a minimum of 1,080 instructional hours during the school year. State law also specifies that the first day of school cannot begin prior to August 23. Based on these requirements, the earliest possible start date for students in the 2026–2027 school year is Monday, August 24, 2026, which will serve as the first day of school for Western Dubuque students.
The approved calendar closely follows the structure of the current school year with only minor adjustments. Maintaining a consistent calendar from year to year helps provide predictability for students, staff, and families while ensuring the district continues to meet all state requirements.
The 2026–2027 school calendar is now available on the district website. Families are encouraged to review the calendar as they begin planning for the upcoming school year.
Western Dubuque Schools appreciates the continued partnership of our families and community as we work together to provide strong learning opportunities for all students.
