The Unified Activity Federation—comprised of the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA), Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU), Iowa High School Music Association (IHSMA), and Iowa High School Speech Association (IHSSA)—has designated Sunday, July 27 through Sunday, August 3, 2024, as the official Summer Non-Contact Period across the state of Iowa.

Now in its fourth year, this annual break provides a consistent pause in scheduled activities, giving students, coaches, and staff members the opportunity to rest, recharge, and enjoy time away from structured programs.

During this weeklong period, Western Dubuque Community School District will suspend all activities, including:

Camps, clinics, workouts, strength and conditioning, lessons, team or individual meetings.

We encourage our families to use this time to relax, reflect, and prepare for the exciting year ahead. Thank you for supporting this shared commitment to student well-being and balance.

Each month, the WDCCSD School Board visits one of our eight schools to learn about focus areas and progress. This month, they visited Western Dubuque High School, where Principal Ethan Lensch and Assistant Principal Andrew Carbajal shared updates on improved grades, the Student Assistance Team process, and higher attendance. Strong systems of support are allowing WDHS to perform as one of the best high schools in Iowa, as measured by the School Performance Profile! During the visit, agricultural students showcased their learning by presenting a creative skit on solar energy’s impact on farming. Their well-researched and engaging performance sparked meaningful discussion among board members and administrators. These visits highlight the great work happening in our schools and the dedication of our students and staff! #wdbqschools
