Welcome to Western Dubuque's Computer Applications course!  This course will guide you through the basic computer and technology skills you will need for high school (and beyond).
 
Your Computer Apps teacher will guide you through the course.  She or he will provide the information you will need for learning, creating projects, uploading projects, and more.  Your Computer Apps teacher will inform you of her/his grading expectations and completion dates.
 
This course is designed so you can access it during class and outside of class.  It is a resource you can use when you have questions about Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, digital safety, and much more.

  Microsoft Word 2016 is a word processing application that allows you to create a variety of documents, including letters, resumes, and more. It is a technology tool that is necessary in our school environment for composing papers and text-based projects. Mastering Word is a critical element of your high school education.
 

Microsoft PowerPoint logo  Microsoft PowerPoint 2016 is a presentation tool.  It can help you convey your message or help you share your project quickly with very nice results.  PowerPoint gives you the power to insert graphics, images, videos, and audio files into your presentation.
 

Microsoft Excel logo  Microsoft Excel 2016 is a spreadsheet creation program.  It is one of the leading business tools in the world.  Excel allows you to quickly assimilate numerical data and create charts, graphs, and presentations.  Anyone considering a career in the business world should spend time learning at least the basics of Excel.
 

 
  OneDrive is the backbone of the Office 365 environment. Think of OneDrive as an external hard drive where you can store documents and files. Plus, you can share the documents and files you upload. OneDrive enables you to access your files from any location that has Wi-Fi (Internet) access.
 

 
 Microsoft Outlook 2016 is an Email program that is one of the most used in the world.  Learning how it works and what you can do with it will greatly enhance your job marketability skills in the future as well as allow you to communicate with your teachers.
 

 
  Microsoft Skype 2016 is a way that you can present face-to-face projects, interviews, and calls with one or people.  It's easy to use but you will need to practice using it before you "go live".  More and more employers are using Skype for job interviews so mastering its use may be a huge benefit to you in the future.
 

 
Sway logo  Microsoft Sway 2016 is an innovative and exciting way to share your ideas, research, and presentations. There are limitless opportunities that you and your students can enjoy. Creativity can be unleashed in unique and fantastic ways!
 

 
Digital Safety logo  Digital Citizenship is crucial in today's society.  It is a necessary component for being safe when using digital media and helps provide guidelines for adults and students when interacting online.  However, most people aren't aware of digital citizenship and make mistakes that can affect their lives in negative ways.  Learn about digital citizenship in this part of your Computer Apps course.
 

 
Audacity Logo  Audacity is an audio creation and editing program.  It can be used to create podcasts, background audio, voiceovers, and much more.  When used in conjunction with a video creation and editing program, Audacity is a powerful free technology tool.
 

 
  Adobe Spark is the video editing program we are using to start the school year (until Microsoft unveils its Movie Maker replacement).  Adobe Spark is easy and is a great Movie Maker replacement that is available online so it can be used anyplace that you have an Internet connection.  This section of your Computer Applications course will walk you through how to use the program and how to create a video.
 

 
Technology Person  Purchasing a new technology can be a nerve-wracking or frustrating experience.  There are so many options to choose from and technologies are changing so quickly that it is difficult to understand what you are purchasing.  This section of the course will help you learn the language of technology so you are an informed consumer when it is time to purchase your next new technology.
