The Unified Activity Federation—comprised of the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA), Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU), Iowa High School Music Association (IHSMA), and Iowa High School Speech Association (IHSSA)—has designated Sunday, July 27 through Sunday, August 3, 2024, as the official Summer Non-Contact Period across the state of Iowa.
Now in its fourth year, this annual break provides a consistent pause in scheduled activities, giving students, coaches, and staff members the opportunity to rest, recharge, and enjoy time away from structured programs.
During this weeklong period, Western Dubuque Community School District will suspend all activities, including:
Camps, clinics, workouts, strength and conditioning, lessons, team or individual meetings.
We encourage our families to use this time to relax, reflect, and prepare for the exciting year ahead. Thank you for supporting this shared commitment to student well-being and balance.

Last night, in a powerful show of support, the Bobcat baseball team took the field against Cedar Rapids Prairie in a game dedicated to raising awareness for pediatric brain tumors. With added support from players, coaches, and families from Dubuque Hempstead, the event raised over $20,000 for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.
This event hit close to home. It was our way of rallying around Brett Harris, a senior-to-be, who has been courageously facing a brain tumor diagnosis since spring 2023.
The generosity, care, and unity on display last night were nothing short of inspiring.
