Science Cloud Lab
This week in science class the 8th graders conducted a lab on making clouds. Frist, we started by boiling water. Then they got two cups and put black paper around the glass jars. Then they filled the cups with hot water. After they did that, Mr. Westhoff came over to the group and lit a match and put it in one cup. With the other cup we didn’t put a match in it and just put the bag of ice over that cup and the other cup (control cup). When we did that, we watched as a cloud formed. Congratulations on our March Students of the Month! Each month a selected group of teachers, paras, and other staff members in the building nominate a student that they feel is showing qualities of that particular month's "theme". March's theme is "Accountability". Congratulations to these students for being excellent leaders and role models to their peers! #drexlerms #wdbqschoools

On March 18, some of our DMS seventh grade girls attended the John Deere Engineering field trip. It was held at John Deere in Dubuque. A bunch of other schools around the area joined them there. The groups were different girls from other schools that got paired together. While they were there, they participated in many activities about engineering. In Physical Education class last week, students got to play wheelchair basketball with Patrick O’Hea helping teach this unit. He wanted to help teach this sport because he is in a wheelchair himself and used to play. He is inspired to teach this because he wants to show kids that they can still play sports and be involved in activities, even with a disability. Students have been having a lot of fun learning how to play wheelchair basketball. We thank Mr. O’Hea for helping teach this to our students and also giving kids that do have a disability a chance to interact with other kids in a safe and fun way.! We hope kids had fun and keep teaching other kids and adults about this sport!

Today during Journalism class, we went to Farley Elementary where Josie Wulfekuhle was mentoring elementary students. She was with the kindergarteners, and she helped them with spelling and reading. They were working on spelling their name and sounding their name out in whole group. Mentoring is a way for middle school students to help out the elementary teachers in their free time. The elementary students enjoy having the older students helping them. (by Journalism students: Gabrielle Frost and Andie Haun)
