In Physical Education class last week, students got to play wheelchair basketball with Patrick O’Hea helping teach this unit. He wanted to help teach this sport because he is in a wheelchair himself and used to play. He is inspired to teach this because he wants to show kids that they can still play sports and be involved in activities, even with a disability. Students have been having a lot of fun learning how to play wheelchair basketball. We thank Mr. O’Hea for helping teach this to our students and also giving kids that do have a disability a chance to interact with other kids in a safe and fun way.! We hope kids had fun and keep teaching other kids and adults about this sport!

Last Friday's March Madness Dress Up Day was Black Out Day!

Last week at Drexler, we had a 3-point challenge between each grade level 6th-8th grade to celebrate March Madness. We did the challenge during Bobcat Time. Each Bobcat Time chose three people to shoot as many baskets as possible in one minute. On Monday, the 6th graders from Mr. Hosch’s Bobcat time won. On Tuesday the 7th graders went, and Mr. Neiman’s Bobcat Time won. On Thursday, the 8th graders had their turn, and Mrs. Kramer's Bobcat Time won. The winners get to have donuts in their Bobcat Time. Save Hamlet
On April 25th and 26th the DMS play will be performed at the Western Dubuque high school called “Save Hamlet”. DMS has 33 students that went out for the play, and the main characters are Hamlet, Buradette, Horachiea, Marcella, Francessca. A little bit about the play is that it follows Shakespeare's Hamlet; Hamlet's father dies, and his mother remarries his stepdad. The girls in the play are trying to get through it with little bloodshed. If you are interested in this, we recommend you go out for it! Ms. Maki is always looking for more people and it's something fun to do after school. Go support our students at the play and we hope to see a full crowd! (written by journalism students Isabelle, Diona, and Kaci)

8th grade registration forms due back tomorrow!

Out of an abundance of caution, Western Dubuque Schools will be closed today, Wednesday, March 5, due to anticipated dangerously high winds and blowing snow, creating hazardous travel conditions. Please stay safe.

6th grade recently finished up their Greek Mythology unit. While learning about the different gods/goddesses, heroes, and monsters, they worked on their reading comprehension skills, using evidence from a text to support their writing, identifying character traits, and vocabulary. While studying how artists and writers emphasize different aspects of stories, they had fun completing their own piece of art for our classroom museum.

This past Tuesday, we had the pleasure of hosting our first "Legacy Lunch" at Drexler! It was a luncheon to celebrate all of the contributions of both current and retired staff from our building!

Good luck to our Bobcat Archery State Qualifiers who will be in Des Moines this weekend!

Today Cascade and Drexler came together to listen public speaker Captain Scott Frank talk about social media and online safety. The kids were great and took away a lot of useful information.
